The YMCA Alliance of Maine monitors state legislation and regulations that could impact independent YMCAs in our state. The Alliance seeks to educate state lawmakers concerning the vital role YMCAs play in promoting healthy living, building strong families, providing safe recreational programs for children, and supporting communities throughout the state.

Each legislative session, the YMCA Alliance of Maine advocates on a variety of bills related to the YMCA's three core focus areas of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.

During the 129th Maine Legislative Session, the YMCA Alliance of Maine supports the following:

  • LD 508: Resolve, To Study the Protection of Youth and Young Adults from Addiction and Premature Death by Restricting Marketing of Tobacco Products
  • LD 997: An Act To Promote Social and Emotional Learning and Development for Young Children
  • LD 1012: An Act To Provide Stable Funding and Support for Childcare Providers
  • LD 1043: An Act To Establish Universal Public Preschool Programs
